Even still, this is the sixth Murakami novel that I’ve read (and by far the longest) but I still can’t make up my mind whether I like him or not. You find yourself being drawn in without really knowing why. The music turns up at key moments throughout the mammoth, three-volume 1Q84 and like all Murakami symbolism its presence is mysterious, eloquently vague, yet still quite alluring. Leoš Janáček’s Sinfonettia, actually, a wonderful piece of music that you can listen to here, which I’ve since gone and bought on vinyl. ![]()
